Several roses in full bloom and bud are shown growing over a crisscross wooden trellis, with detailed leaves filling the spaces between the flowers. The drawing combines fine linework on the petals and leaf veins with the geometric pattern of the lattice. This scene offers a good exercise in shading petals with gradual color tones, from pale pink centers to deeper edges.
